The Champagne region in France is famous for its sparkling wines, stunning landscapes, and charming towns. To make the most of your visit, it’s essential to plan your arrival carefully. As a local guide, I’m sharing some tips on the main transportation options and the differences between the region’s key train stations.

1. From Paris by Train

The easiest way to get to Champagne from Paris is by train. There are three main stations serving the region:

Gare d’Épernay

  • Location: In the heart of Épernay, near the famous Avenue de Champagne.

  • Advantages: Perfect for those who want to visit nearby vineyards and cellars, explore the town on foot, and start tours with the main producers.

  • Travel time: About 45 to 50 minutes from Paris.

Gare Champagne-Ardenne TGV (near Reims, 10 minutes by car)

  • Location: Slightly outside the center of Reims but well connected.

  • Advantages: Ideal for high-speed train (TGV) travelers, with quick access to Reims and the northern Champagne region.

  • Travel time: Approximately 45 minutes from Paris.

  • Access: Also reachable via Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Gare Centre Reims

  • Location: In the center of Reims city.

  • Advantages: Great for exploring Reims on foot, visiting the Cathedral, museums, and urban vineyards.

  • Travel time: Slightly longer from the TGV, but perfect for those who want to stay in the city center.

2. From Paris by Car

Car: The journey takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes via the highway. Routes are well signposted, and parking is available in the main towns. A major advantage of driving is the flexibility to explore small villages and vineyards at your own pace.

3. Practical Tips

  • Plan your visit according to the opening hours of the wineries.

  • Check the weather forecast and wear comfortable clothing.

  • Book tickets or tours in advance, especially during the high season.
